Along with the launch of the new Pixel 7 series, Google has announced that it will offer Google One’s VPN service for free to Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro customers. Unusual, but definitely enjoyable. More details on when the offer will start are now known.
Until now, Google One required at least a 2 TB package subscription to be able to use Google’s VPN. This is set to change for Pixel 7 customers in December. The free offer is activated in the last month of the year. Also applies to customers in Germany.
Google VPN is free soon for recent Pixel phone users
Starting in December 2022*, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro customers without a Google One subscription will be able to access Google One’s VPN at no additional cost on those devices through the Google One app. All other Google One membership benefits are sold separately.
Google’s VPN service has a bad reputation
Google VPN is not without controversy, as critics assume that Google uses this channel to tap user data. Still, the channel is at least externally secure and, thanks to encryption, hides your identity, location and IP address.
On Android phones, Google One’s VPN can be accessed directly through the Quick Settings and quickly activated at any time.
