Google is rebuilding the Camera app, a new version will likely launch with the Pixel 8 smartphone.
Google will install new camera sensors on the Pixel 8 smartphone and also give a refreshing update to the camera app. The new version has already appeared today, revealing some of the upcoming changes, some of which will also come to the Pixel 7 and Co. via a later update.
The Google Camera conversion also comes to older models via an update
One big change is the separation of photos and videos. Instead of offering both modes in the previous bar, Photo and Video now have their own main switches at the bottom of the screen. That should allow for more intuitive operation. The top carousel remains for portraits, night vision, etc.
Also, Google changed the gallery location and camera switch button. Now access to the gallery is on the left. A new swipe gesture takes you to settings without actually changing anything.
Google also revamps the various camera modes Long exposure and action photos, for example, each have their own tabs and are not grouped together under “Motion”.
That certainly wasn’t all
More innovations are expected, which will then be available exclusively on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. There are certainly some improvements planned for the new cameras, with the Pixel 8 Pro, in addition to the new main sensor, featuring a 64MP zoom for better autofocus and a new ToF sensor. So there may be more to come than what is already there Android Authority Just might find out.
