Sony’s smartphone division is now only “hanging by a thread” in some markets. It has long been surprising that Sony is still in the smartphone business. In the home market of all places, the Xperia series recently lost 40 percent in sales. On the other hand, Google has captured these sales.
Google is now probably number 2 in Japan behind Apple. Interestingly, the Japanese smartphone brands are now overshadowed by the second American manufacturer and Sharp will also have to rank behind Google these days and in the future.
