Offworld Industries is pleased to announce that Update 6.0, the latest set of improvements to their popular 50v50 military FPS game Squad, is now available to all players worldwide. The latest collection of additions and improvements to the popular shooter brings one of the most comprehensive updates ever released: a complete overhaul of infantry combat to deliver the most entertaining, immersive and authentic infantry combat experience possible. This revised battle dynamic places a greater emphasis on teamwork, increasing the need for cooperative tactics to achieve victory over your opponent, and creating more meaningful trade-offs between different teams, weapons, and optics.
The overall goal of the combat overhaul is to strengthen the core gameplay experience of Squad and ensure accessibility for new and existing players and reduce the steep learning curve of combat gameplay mechanics. Improvements include:
Daman has been completely reformed. We aim to promote suppression as an effective tactical tool for both offense and defense in any fire. The suppression effect reduces a player’s combat effectiveness by clouding the player’s vision and reducing their ability to aim, encouraging them to reposition themselves to find a better strategic vantage point. This increases the need for teamwork and reduces the chances of one player dominating a match. Additionally, more powerful weapons produce a longer lasting suppression effect.
Picture-in-picture (or PIP) scopes have been added to the game so that when aiming through a magnified scope, only the field within the scope is magnified, mostly following real-world measurements with fields of view for different optics.
Gunplay has been adjusted to create more entertaining, team-based infantry combat, and a player’s ability to influence the outcome of firefights has been tampered with so that effective communication and teamwork can often overcome individual combatants.
Players in vulnerable positions relative to the enemy are more likely to be wounded and less likely to die outright, giving them meaningful opportunities to react to incoming fire and adjust tactics in real time.
Additional features include adjusting player movement to promote more aware and team-oriented positioning, as well as the introduction of proximity indicators to keep an eye on your teammates. Update 6.0 also introduces brand new weapon skins to the battlefield, the first in a planned series of skin weapon packs that allow players to customize their loadouts.
With Update 6.0, the entire infantry combat experience has been fundamentally improved and overhauled, marking the biggest change to Squad’s core gameplay since its initial release.
