Xiaomi will soon launch the first phones made with Leica, announcing a big launch event for Monday, July 4th. The company has made its announcement Weibo Account, confirming that it will launch the Xiaomi 12S series on that date.
Xiaomi announced a partnership with Leica earlier this year, underscoring the brand’s recent camera-centric focus. While Xiaomi’s camera phones haven’t been as bad in the past, the company hopes it can compete more favorably with the likes of Apple, Samsung and Google. It has seen Vivo and OnePlus rivals like Zeiss and Hasselblad partner with good results in recent years.
“Xiaomi focuses on creating the ultimate user experience, and always hopes to explore the capabilities of smartphone photography to the fullest. Xiaomi and Leica agree with each other’s pursuits and ideas and appreciate each other’s advantages and industry. Lei Jun, founder, chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group Says At the announcement, “During the collaboration, from optical design to tuning aesthetic adaptation, innovative technologies, product philosophy and imaging choices on both sides have experienced unprecedented deep collisions and fusions.”
The CEO of Licor shared a similar comment, saying that the company has “extraordinary image quality, classic Licca aesthetics, [and] Unlimited creativity. ”Previously, Leica collaborated with Huawei on its flagship phones.
The Xiaomi 12S series is expected to be the first result of that partnership, with the Xiaomi 12S Ultra (previously leaked as 12 Ultra) coming as the company’s premier camera phone. It is expected to have a 6.6-inch 1440p AMOLED display with a Snapdragon 8 Plus Zen1 processor and a smooth refresh rate. It is also said to come with a quad-camera setup that matches – if not – the Xiaomi 11 Ultra. We’re hoping for a 50-megapixel main camera, 48MP ultraviolet, 48MP periscope lens for portrait and zoom, and a mysterious fourth sensor whose details remain unknown. In the case of the 12S and 12Pro, we’ll find out more about them when Xiaomi announces the phones on Monday.
