A new report suggests that the web version of Adobe’s Photoshop may be free for all users, significantly reducing the barriers to accessing reputable image suites.
According to Newwin, Adobe is currently testing a freemium version of Photoshop in Canada. Anyone with a free Adobe account can access the web version of the image editing program, the company plans to move some of the app’s premium tools to the payroll level.
Adobe first launched the web version of Photoshop in 2021 as a relatively early alternative to the full desktop version. In the intervening months, the company has steadily improved the app to where it is now an effective option for many users.

Also, collaboration with the web version is front and center, allowing multiple users to easily work on the same image or project. Recent versions have even removed the limitations that previously required creating an image via the desktop version and now allow users to start their workflow directly from the web version.
While the company is looking to create some premium features as a payment option, Adobe plans to release the free version with adequate tools to provide core functionality. There is no word on when the trial will extend beyond Canada.
