Apple initially introduced an action button only on expensive devices, but it shouldn’t stay that way.
It’s quite common for Apple to introduce new functions in flagships and then find their way into cheaper models. This will probably also be the case with the new action button, which Apple has integrated for the first time in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
This action button replaces a real classic, the so-called mute switch. It’s a small switch that instantly silences the iPhone. After many years, Apple now looks at this problem differently and considers a simple button that the user can independently be more useful.
Already with iPhone 16 should The action button will become a new standard for all models. And I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more of it with devices from other manufacturers. It has become less common for Android OEMs to blindly copy everything from Apple.
Interestingly, manufacturers such as Samsung themselves already had such buttons, for example for Bixby. It’s just that they made a mistake and wanted to impose something on the users. Apple itself is more free and offers many options to the user.
However, I keep reading that users of newer models don’t actually use the action button and completely forget about it a few weeks after buying their iPhone. Not exactly a good reason to integrate this button with all models.
