The Next G Alliance is an initiative to take North America’s wireless technology leadership forward with an initial focus on 6G systems over the next decade.
ATIS ‘NextG Alliance and Japan’s Beyond 5G Promotion Consortium (B5GPC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support future 6G wireless networks.
Launched by the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), the NextG Alliance is an initiative to take North America’s wireless technology leadership to the next decade, with a primary focus on private-sector-led efforts such as unproven 6G systems. .
The MoU specified how the two companies could exchange information and publications regarding the 6G wireless network. It also covers how they can be jointly engaged in collaborative research and development projects, including organizing international communication and exchange events and establishing and implementing cooperative joint ventures and programs.
“The Next G Alliance takes a holistic view of the global 6G marketplace and the wider environment and has created the 6G vision of North America and mapped the steps to achieve it in the National 6G Roadmap,” said Susan Miller, President and CEO of ATIS. “The collaboration between the NextG Alliance and the Beyond 5G Promotion Consortium will further the organization’s mission in developing the future global 6G mobile wireless ecosystem.”
Earlier this month, Japan’s Beyond 5G Promotion Consortium (B5PC) and Europe’s 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in next-generation networks.
As part of the agreement, the areas of cooperation include the exchange of information as well as cooperation in the following areas:
– Vision of 6G
-Exploration and promotion of technology to ensure awareness, understanding and involvement and ultimately acceptance
– 6G requirements
Discuss basic system concepts, architecture and usage
– Support for global regulatory processes in the spectrum system for frequency band detection and 6G technology
– Identifying common interests, building consensus and collaborating to support the development of global compliant standards
Promoting collaboration between European and Japanese R&D companies and industries
-6G and use in other cases.
“B5GPC is a driving force behind the promotion of Beyond 5G in Japan and has shared its vision beyond 5G to realize the new generation of Beyond 5G mobile wireless networks in the 2030s,” said B5GPC President Makoto Ganokami. “Collaboration with the B5 GPC and the NextG Alliance is key to achieving our goals of developing beyond 5G in the world.”
Meanwhile, in December 2021, ATIS ‘NextG Alliance and Korea’s 5G Forum signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in next-generation mobile communications.
Collaboration between the two organizations may also include: exchanging information on trends in 6G technology; Discuss the creation of a 6G roadmap; Collaboration on global standardization and spectrum; Analysis of the socio-economic aspects of 6G and other areas of agreement between the two agencies regarding 6G promotion.
The initial commercial deployment of 6G technology is forecast to take place between 2028 and 2029, according to ABI Research, a global tech market advisory firm.
The research firm further said that they expect the first standards to be ready for 6G by 2026.
