Google is making an offshoot of the first mid-range device of the new Pixel generation.
Google is ditching the next Pixel phone, making it a discontinued model. But at least the software isn’t finished yet, more updates are certain for some time. However, if maintaining the software for a long time (from a purchase date perspective) is extremely important to you, we recommend against purchasing it.
Google has now officially discontinued the Pixel 6a and removed it from its own “Google Store” store (via Droid-life) if the model is still available, this is the remaining stock. However, Google’s update table shows that the phone is not at the end.
It’s mentioned there that more Android version updates are guaranteed to appear for the Pixel 6a by July 2025. Specifically, that means an update to Android 15 this fall and actually three more Pixel feature drops in December 2024, March and June 2025. Security updates will be available until 2027.
Currently the most current Pixel 7a will be supplied with Android version updates until May 2026, even the new Pixel 8a will be released in May 2024. However, we are again talking about a different price range, as prices are expected to rise in 2024 to reach the brand again close to 600 euros.
