Today microtransactions are the currency of many games, a practice that apparently won’t stop and games like free fire Clear this rewarding business. And now, the former CEO Electronic Arts, John RiccitelloNoting that developers who don’t use them are “the nicest, purest and brightest people” and at the same time, “some of the biggest fucking idiots”.
Its now CEO unity Technology talked to PocketGamer.Biz In this regard, following the announcement of the upcoming merger unity e Iron source. When asked about the pushback some developers gave to implementing monetization early in the game’s development, Rikitilo did not hold
Here is his full speech:
Ferrari and other high-end car manufacturers still use clay and carving knives. It’s a very small part of the gaming industry that works that way, and some of those people are my favorite people in the world: they’re the nicest, purest, and brightest people. Also, they are the biggest fucking idiots.
I’ve been in the industry longer than anyone, getting gray hair and all that. It used to be that developers would throw their game over the wall to the publisher and sales force with literally no prior interaction. That model is embedded in the philosophies of many art forms and media and is one that I deeply respect; I know your dedication and care.
But the industry is divided between people who still cling to that philosophy and those who embrace more broadly how to create a successful product. And I don’t know a major artist anywhere who doesn’t care what his players think. This feedback loop comes back here and you can ignore it, but choosing not to know at all is not a great decision.
I’ve seen great games fail because they set their commit cycle to two minutes when it should have been an hour. Sometimes you won’t even notice the product difference between a huge success and a resounding failure, but for this fit and what it does with churn rate. There isn’t a developer on the planet who doesn’t want that knowledge.
Faced with this statement, some developers were upset Rikitilo. Even its developers Last night, Team SourTweeted that he was “destroying the unity we all love.”
I’ve had enough of his bullshit.
