(Pocket-Lint) – The dark mode of Facebook Messenger was originally a bit secretive when it first came out in 2019, users had to send a crescent to activate it.
Although that is no longer the case. Here’s how to turn on Dark Mode in Facebook Messenger.
What is a dark mode?
People who use their phones or computers late at night or in the dark often suffer from eye strain. This is because many popular websites, apps and even device user interfaces (UIs) use light color schemes.
Research has been done to suggest that dark modes, which re-skin the look of a site, app or UI to make them look darker, are more beneficial not only for your health, but also for your device’s battery.
As a result, both Android and iOS devices offer a system-wide dark mode, and you’ll find services like Twitter, Instagram, and WhatsApp among many others, including Facebook Messenger, which you can enable.
How to enable Dark Mode of Facebook Messenger
When Facebook Messenger’s Dark Mode feature first debuted in 2019, it was an Easter egg. As mentioned earlier, you need to send one Crescent Emoji Chat with a friend to activate it. But, on 15 April 2019, Facebook introduced Dark Mode for all users.
So, here’s how to enable it:
- Open the Facebook Messenger app
- Tap your profile photo at the top left of the Messenger app to access settings
- Toggle dark mode to change chat theme from white to black.
