To this day, it remains one of the most iconic logos in the world of video games Mortal Kombat, which puts a sort of dragon as the protagonist that summons warriors to fight. And with that, some fans wonder how it originated, so a creator of the franchise has already answered such a unique question.
inside Twitter, John Tobias Unveiled the original hand-drawn logo he created for its first game Mortal Kombat and delved into his background. Confusion over the seahorse analogy, which was the subject of criticism at the time, was also somewhat cleared up.

Here’s a recently discovered image of the first drawing of the #MortalKombat dragon icon. I designed the icon to symbolize our game and its fictional tournament.
The inspiration for using the dragon as a symbol of the fictional tournament came from ‘Dragon Attack’, which was controversially the title of our game before the change. Here is a rough marker sketch of my marquee logo.
I was thinking of creating an icon to represent the fictional tournament, but also identify the game with a symbol… like Superman’s “S” or Batman’s bat symbol. I used the dragon from my cabinet side panel sketch to convey the look of the dragon icon as our symbol.
The final design of the icon was an attempt to replicate the yin yang symbol, a central part of early MK fiction, representing the balance of fury.
It should be noted that this logo was almost destroyed after its sister confusion Tobias, who thought the dragon was a sea horse. Fortunately, however, the design was intact.
