HMD launches its “new” brand and buries Nokia.
This was already hinted and now HMD is pulling the plug on the Nokia smartphone. A few years ago, the young company secured the rights to the Nokia naming convention and has been constantly bringing new Android phones to market. Now that the naming rights are expiring, HMD is continuing with its own name and is starting now.
A few hours before the article, for example, HMD presented a video introducing its own brand. Also, the former NokiaMobile channel has been renamed to HMD, viz Gizmochina Noticed however, old videos of previous Nokia smartphones are still online and have not been removed.
No more new Nokia smartphones
This should mark the final end of Nokia in smartphones. Unless someone gets naming rights again at some point. But that doesn’t mean anything, the name has burned out and no longer attracts anyone from behind the stove, HMD now realizes. We will soon see the first HMD phones in stores.
