With the Pixel 6 series, Google has shaken off the past and once again made the displays massively larger. Compact pixel cell phones with screen diagonals of 6 inches or less are a thing of the past. Or so we thought, until a well-known insider spoke up.
Now the world famous “Digital Chat Station” hat New information for us that we can hopefully trust. “Blue” is believed to be the name of a device at Google internally that it describes as a “small-screen flagship”. So it is supposed to be a flagship phone with a relatively small screen.
Of course, there’s the question of whether it’s an iPhone mini-like display or a regular iPhone-like display around 6 inches. Anything about 6 inches or less can be described as short these days. Almost all Pixel phones in recent years have this screen dimension
Winding up with the Pixel 6, the device had a 6.5-inch display and wasn’t exactly compact. With the Pixel 7, Google at least made some improvements and made the display and housing a bit smaller. The first images were able to be compared even before the Pixel 7 series went on sale.
Small smartphones are rare in the Android world. ASUS’ new Zenfone 9 is a good example of this exception. It’s about 13mm smaller than Google’s Pixel 6 and 7mm slimmer. This accommodates one-handed operation, which I personally find difficult with most modern devices.
So far, the new Pixel phone with a smaller screen hasn’t appeared anywhere else. However, this can change quickly after the first information. Surely many will now search Google source codes for the “blue” codename. Google may reveal more of itself on October 6.
